Last season, the Los Angeles Rams erased any memory of team's first season back where it all began for the franchise. The team parted ways with head coach Jeff Fisher and brought in first-timer Sean McVay with the move paying off immediately as the Rams making the playoffs with a record of 11-5.
One player that benefited more than most from McVay's presence was running back Todd Gurley. After a sophomore slump under Fisher, Gurley bounced back with a vengeance in 2017 rushing for a career-high 1,305 yards and 13 touchdowns to go along with 788 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 64 receptions.
Needless to say, Gurley was a legitimate candidate for NFL MVP and quickly got back into the best-running-back-in-the-league conversation. Although he's coming off a career year, the Rams star claimed he's already forgotten about last season in an interview for the team's website, transcription via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
“You don’t really think about it too much,” Gurley said. “I don’t know. I kind of forgot about it, honestly. I haven’t really thought about it. You just go back and what you watch on film and you just see the big plays you made and it kind of motivates you to do it again, to make those types of exciting plays, put the team in great situations and just try to be an accountable player.”
The Rams have an opportunity to do something special in 2018. Los Angeles upgraded their roster on both sides of the football this offseason and appear to have a legitimate shot at contending for a Super Bowl title.
Along with Gurley coming into his own and quarterback Jared Goff turning the corner under McVay, the team was aggressive in adding free agents and making trades. As a result, the team has added notable players like Ndamukong Suh, Brandin Cooks, Marcus Peters, and Aqib Talib.
