What’s a week without a Pittsburgh Steelers player being issued with a fine or suspension? This time, it’s right tackle Marcus Gilbert, who’ll not see action for the next four games for his infraction of the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substance. This is all according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Steelers general manager Kelvin Colbert has released a statement with regards to Gilbert’s suspension. In it, he expressed disappointment on Gilbert’s actions. Colbert also noted that the former Florida Gator will not be allowed to enter the team’s facility until he’s completely served his suspension.

“We are disappointed that Marcus Gilbert has been suspended four games for using performance-enhancing substances. He will not appeal the NFL’s decision.

“The suspension is effective immediately, and he will not be permitted in the building until after the suspension has concluded following our game on Dec. 17.”

In lieu of Gilbert, the Steelers will likely elevate Chris Hubbard as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’ primary protector on his right side during games against the Green Bay Packers, Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots

Gilbert’s suspension comes at the time when the Steelers are trying to lock down a No. 1 seed in the AFC. Pittsburgh currently holds an identical 8-2 record with the Patriots. They also own the tiebreaker as of the moment over New England because of a better win percentage in the conference.

With the playoffs quickly approaching, this is obviously a pretty big blow to a good Pittsburgh team. Time will tell how much this actually hurts them moving forward.
