The Miami Dolphins are out of playoff contention, a piece of reality for the struggling franchise that should only make team head coach Adam Gase’s seat warm for the foreseeable future.

Having said that, it does not seem as though Gase is sweating about his job security. In fact, he has expressed his disinclination in campaigning to retain his job, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“We haven’t been had a discussion about it,” Gase said. “It’s been business as usual for us. I’m only worried about this week. I’m still here, so I don’t need to lobby for my job. I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about Buffalo.”

The Dolphins enter Week 17 of the NFL season with a 7-8 record, with a chance of finishing the year with a .500 slate. They can do that if they beat the Buffalo Bills on the road this coming Sunday. Miami defeated the Bills at home, 21-17, back in Week 17, so the Dolphins can draw confidence from that, but that’s hardly the kind of success which bolsters Gase’s odds of returning to Miami in 2019 for his fourth year as the sideline boss of the franchise.

To be fair to Gase, the Dolphins have dealt with injuries to some of their key players for the most part of the season. Ryan Tannehill, Cameron Wake, and Xavien Howard were each sidelined for multiple weeks to nurse varying injuries.

The Dolphins have not made the playoffs since Gase’s first year on the job when the team finished with a 10-6 record to lock up a wildcard spot in the AFC.
