The Miami Dolphins have been expected to move on from Ryan Tannehill since the season ended, and now, it looks like that process is finally beginning.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Dolphins have engaged in trade discussions for Tannehill. Rapoport added that Tannehill's salary will make him difficult to trade, which indicates that he may just end up getting released.
While Miami has remained very diplomatic on Tannehill since the conclusion of the 2018 campaign, the writing was on the wall for his departure.
The 30-year-old was limited to just 11 games this past season due to a shoulder issue, throwing for 1,979 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while completing 64.2 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 92.7.
Tannehill, who played his collegiate football at Texas A&M University, was originally selected by the Dolphins with the eighth overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.
He immediately was named Miami's starting signal-caller, starting all 16 games during his rookie campaign and throwing for 3,294 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 13 picks in a disappointing first season.
Article Continues BelowThe following year, Tannehill showed significant improvement, finishing with 3,913 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions while completing 60.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 81.7.
However, the Big Spring, Tx. native did not get all that much better from that point going forward, resulting in the Dolphins stagnating as a team in general.
A torn ACL knocked him out for 2017, which essentially spelled the beginning of the end for Tannehill in South Beach.
The Dolphins made the playoffs just once during Tannehill's tenure with the club.
