Perhaps it's time to pump the brakes on the Tom Brady-to-Miami Dolphins rumors.
While speaking with reporters last week, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said that the chances of Brady going to South Beach are essentially zero:
“We’re a team that’s building, and I don’t know why he’d really want to come to the Dolphins,” Ross said, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. “He’s been one of the fiercest competitors there is and we’re at the stage with the Dolphins trying to really build a team for the future.”
The idea of Brady heading to Miami always seemed rather silly.
He will be 43 years old by the time next season starts, so the six-time Super Bowl champion is obviously in win-now mode. As great as Brady is, he has declined, and he likely wouldn't be able to turn a five-win Dolphins team into a title contender.
Article Continues BelowThere has also been chatter about Brady potentially signing with the Los Angeles Chargers or Las Vegas Raiders, but the smart money is probably on the future Hall-of-Famer returning to the New England Patriots.
Brady has remained mum on his upcoming free agency, but it could very well be that he is just holding the Patriots' feet to the fire to get him some more weapons in the passing game.
New England's receiving corps was barren outside of Julian Edelman in 2019, and with Rob Gronkowski retiring, the tight end position was an unmitigated disaster.
Brady is coming off of a season in which he threw for 4,057 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
