The 6-4 Miami Dolphins will travel to MetLife Stadium in Week 12 to take on the worst team in the NFL, the hapless New York Jets.
Coached by former Dolphins head coach Adam Gase, the Jets are 0-10 on the season and have already been eliminated from playoff contention. New York is six losses away from becoming just the third team in NFL history to go 0-16 in a season.
The Dolphins, meanwhile, are coming off a bad loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 11 on the road. Head coach Brian Flores actually benched rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for Ryan Fitzpatrick late in the game, though Tagovailoa is still the starting quarterback.
However, it's worth mentioning that Tagovailoa is being listed as questionable to face the Jets due to a left thumb injury he suffered after jamming his thumb on a helmet in practice. If Tagovailoa can't play, the Dolphins will have to start Fitzpatrick, who played for the Jets in 2015 and 2016.
With the Jets-Dolphins game almost here, let's take a look at four bold predictions for the contest from a Miami point of view.
1. Tua Tagovailoa will play and bounce back from subpar Broncos game
In five games this season for the Dolphins, Tagovailoa has thrown for 602 yards and six touchdowns. The 22-year-old is not only 3-1 as a starter, but Tua hasn’t thrown an interception yet.
However, Tagovailoa did struggle in Week 11 against the Broncos before getting pulled. The lefty was 11-of-20 for just 83 yards.
With that being said, we have Tagovailoa having a solid bounce-back game against the lowly Jets, who are giving up 30.2 points per game on the season. Look for the Dolphins rookie to throw for over 200 yards and toss one touchdown. Tagovailoa has developed a really good rapport with Miami wideout DeVante Parker, so look for those two to hook up on some big plays against the Jets.
2. DeVante Parker scores one touchdown, racks up over 100 yards
Speaking of DeVante Parker, we have the Dolphins star wide receiver catching a touchdown pass against the Jets and recording his second 100-yard game of the season. The Jets just don't have anyone who can guard Parker and stop him from racking up over 100 yards.
In 10 games this season, Parker has caught 44 balls from Fitzpatrick and Tagovailoa for 523 yards and four touchdowns. He's faced the Jets nine times in his career and recorded 25 receptions for 309 yards and three touchdowns.
It's sad to say this, but the Jets don't have any competitive fight left in them. No one on the team enjoys playing for Gase and the players are ready to go their separate ways and enjoy the offseason.
Article Continues BelowOnce the Dolphins build a double-digit lead thanks to Tagovailoa and Parker, New York will give up on defense, which will allow Parker to feast and put up some really good numbers for his fantasy owners.
3. Dolphins pick off Sam Darnold three times
The Jets will get Sam Darnold back in the lineup against the Dolphins, who are giving up only 20.4 points per game on the season. Even when he's not rusty, Darnold is a turnover machine. He has 34 interceptions in 32 games with the Jets and six this season in six contests.
While he has recovered from an AC joint injury in his right shoulder, we have Darnold having an awful game against the Dolphins. Look for Miami to pick off the former USC star three times en route to a dominant performance on defense. Miami has nine interceptions on the season, led by cornerback Xavien Howard's six. Eric Rowe, Bobby McCain and Christian Wilkins each have one.
The Dolphins have forced a turnover in every game this season, which is one of the reasons they are 6-4.
4. Dolphins blow out Jets to improve to 7-4
There is absolutely no way the Jets are going to get their first win of the season against the Dolphins, who have the better quarterback, running back, wide receiver core, defense and head coach. Miami is going to blow out New York to improve to 7-4 on the season and drop the Jets to 0-11.
The Dolphins are motivated to get back in the win column after suffering that Week 11 loss to the Broncos. To make the playoffs in the AFC, Miami is probably going to have to clinch a Wild Card spot since it looks like the Buffalo Bills are going to win the AFC East division. They are 7-3 on the season and will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 12. The Chargers are only 3-7, so the Bills will likely win that game.
With that being said, the Dolphins have to take care of their own business against the putrid Jets in Week 12 and we expect them to win pretty easily.
