The Week 1 matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football was all about Adrian Peterson facing his old team. Unfortunately for Peterson, it was rookie Dalvin Cook's time to shine.

According to Will Brinson of CBS Sports, Cook broke Peterson's rookie rushing record. Peterson was the record holder for the most rushing yards in a debut for the Vikings, but Cook now has that distinction.

Peterson, who was expected to be a major part of the Saints' offense on Monday, finished with only 18 rushing yards in his return to Minnesota. The future Hall of Famer and former face of the Vikings franchise carried the ball only six times while sharing carries with Mark Ingram (6) and Alvin Kamara (7).

Cook, however, stole the show with a game-high 127 rushing yards on 22 carries. The rookie running back was as advertised and gave Vikings fans a reason to be excited in the post-Peterson era in Minnesota.

Peterson's old rookie record was 103 rushing yards on 19 carries. Cook flew by that mark and may have a promising career ahead as the new lead back in the Minnesota backfield.
