When Kirk Cousins originally signed his three-year, $84 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018, the instant reaction was that he was overpaid, and a shaky debut season with the Vikings only made those voices louder.
But after a strong 2019 campaign, Minnesota is looking to reward Cousins.
According to Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com, the Vikings have been discussing a contract extension with Cousins and have been aiming to get a deal done before the March 18 deadline (when free agency begins).
However, it doesn't look like that is going to happen.
Cronin notes that while Minnesota has brought some offers to the table, the two sides have yet to agree on a number, and with free agency swiftly approaching, it's looking less and less likely that an extension will get done.

Cousins is coming off of a season in which he threw for 3,603 yards, 26 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 69.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 107.4 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
The 31-year-old also led the Vikings to a playoff appearance and guided them to an upset win over the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round before ultimately falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
Cousins spent the first six years of his career with the Washington Redskins before joining Minnesota.
