Gus Malzahn approves of at least one of the Patriots' draft picks.

Perhaps showing a little bit of bias, the Auburn coach took to Twitter following the NFL Draft to congratulate his former quarterback, Jarrett Stidham, on landing in Foxboro, calling him the “steal” of the draft.

“The Patriots just got the steal of the draft!” Malzahn tweeted. “[Jarrett Stidham] will be successful in the NFL for a long time. Congrats, Jarrett! #WarEagle”

Not only is Malzahn excited to see what Stidham can do at the next level, but the quarterback himself was pretty “fired up” about the possibility of working in the shadows of Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and Josh McDaniels.

“Shoot, I’m extremely excited,” Stidham told reporters about joining the Patriots. “Obviously, New England has won a bunch of Super Bowls in recent history and Coach [Bill] Belichick is obviously one of the brightest minds in football, so just being able to be a part of what Mr. Kraft is doing in the organization, what Coach Belichick is doing in the organization, I’m so fired up and ready to get to work and be a part of a great organization”

Last season for the Tigers, Stidham completed 60.7% of his passes to go along with 2,794 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

There were questions — rightfully so — about whether Stidham's production was hindered by a lack of fit within Auburn's offense. Nevertheless, he still showed enough to get drafted after transferring from Baylor.
