The New England Patriots sputtered offensively in 2019, especially at the wide receiver position. Despite the lack of production a season ago, Bill Belichick complimented New England's current group of wide receivers.

“We’ll see how all of that goes,” Belichick said in a video conference call after the draft. “I’m sure that our young players will all improve in Year 2. We spent a first-round pick on N’Keal (Harry) last and a second-round pick on (Mohamed) Sanu. That was really all for this draft. Obviously have Julian (Edelman) and a number of other young players. I think that will be a very competitive group. There’s a lot of different ways and time to build your team, and the draft is one of them. But as I mentioned whether it’s Sanu or a free-agent signing like (Damiere) Byrd or whatever the case might be, there are multiple ways to build your roster, and this is one of them.”

The depth of the 2020 NFL Draft class of wide receivers was well-documented, with 27 of them being taken throughout the seven rounds. Therefore, by not taking a wide receiver in the draft, that is a compliment in itself to the current receivers on the roster for the Patriots.

This offseason, the Patriots are excited to see what N'Keal Harry does in his second season in the NFL. Plus, Belichick believes Mohamed Sanu will improve and the signing of Damiere Byrd will help Julian Edelman in the passing game.

Of course, there will be a new quarterback under center in 2020, with Tom Brady leaving in free agency. Regardless of whether it's Jarrett Stidham or someone else throwing the ball, Belichick is optimistic the the Patriots will have a much-improved group of receivers next season.
