Cam Newton just signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots, and the quarterback was overcome with emotion after the deal.

Newton's elation was understandable though, as the quarterback spent his first offseason in free agency — one that surely felt longer than usual for the 2015 MVP.

(And no, it seems that Cam Newton isn't changing the way he types just because he's on a new team. ŁØŁ)

As per Ian Rapoport's tweet, the quarterback just wanted a chance to compete after being sidelined with numerous injuries in the latter part of his nine-year career with the Carolina Panthers. Following another subpar and shortened year in 2019, the Panthers' finally decided to let go of their former star QB after failing to find a trade partner.

It's been a tough offseason for Newton, as he balanced searching for a new team, recovering from his recent foot injury and, of course, being isolated and quarantined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But it seems that things are finally getting better for the 31-year-old, as he's slowly getting back to top shape.

Newton is poised to join the Patriots' training camp within the next few weeks, and he is set to compete to gain Bill Belichick's trust at the QB position. It is yet to be determined if the three-time Pro Bowler will be starting for the Pats.
