New England Patriots veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman may have caught many passes from a familiar man in long-time quarterback Tom Brady. However, 2020 will be a different scene as the 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton is now calling the plays with Brady moving on to Tampa Bay. A new connection is currently in the works for the Patriots heading into the upcoming season.

Newton shared a glimpse of his recent workout with Edelman on Instagram:

After Tom Brady vacated the starting playmaker role in New England, talks have been in endless circles as to whom will fill the void next season. Bill Belichick and the Patriots' front office shocked the entire league as they decided to tap then free-agent Cam Newton.

The two sides agreed to a bargain one-year deal with a base of $1.05 million with only $550,000 guaranteed. The agreement with the franchise was the opportunity that Newton has long been waiting for in order to prove that he still has a lot left in the tank.

Despite his veteran experience and individual accolades, the former Heisman Trophy winner is still not secured for the starting job. He will be joining a quarterback room consisting of sophomore Jarrett Stidham, veteran Bryan Hoyer and undrafted free agents in Brian Lewerke and J'mar Smith.

Newton spent his offseason working out with his fellow NFL players and new Patriots teammates Mohamed Sanu and N'Keal Harry at the UCLA football grounds.

Patriots nation cannot wait any longer to finally see their new-look squad in action. Cam Newton and the rest of the team will be hosting the Miami Dolphins on September 13 at Gilette Stadium in Foxborough.
