The New England Patriots have agreed to a contract with free-agent fullback Danny Vitale, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The terms of the contract haven’t been disclosed.

After having a four-year college career at Northwestern, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Vitale in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He started the season on the Buccaneers’ practice squad before the Browns signed him in October 2016. Vitale spent two seasons with the Browns before finally catching on with the Green Bay Packers in October 2018. Now he is with the Patriots.

This past season with the Packers, Vitale played in 15 games, catching seven passes for 97 yards, including three catches over 20 yards.

During the season, before he moved to the Patriots, Vitale was given a rich compliment. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur praised Vitale in a postgame interview.

“I’m really excited about Danny because I think he’s done an excellent job in both the run game and as an element out of the backfield as a receiver. So, again, another great guy that brings it every day, and he also adds a lot of value to our special teams. So really excited to have Danny.

The Patriots lost two fullbacks to injury last season and were left without any in their depth chart. This upcoming season, Vitale will now be joining Jakob Johnson and James Develin on the Patriots’ fullback depth chart.

Nevertheless, Vitale has the potential to significantly change the Patriots offense. He'll be a great blocker for running back Sony Michel, who had a tough 2019 campaign. In addition, his versatile will help the Patriots on their new-look offense.
