New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended indefinitely on Thursday after deciding to step away from football once again. This time around appears to be a bit different for Gordon. Gordon says his mental health is a big concern right now.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, “each time a player is suspended indefinitely, he definitely must miss at least one year.” Gordon can theoretically return to play football at some point. However, it's extremely unlikely considering his track record. Gordon has been suspended four times since entering the NFL back in 2012.

Gordon could potentially be one of the best receivers in the league as his shown in the past with the Cleveland Browns, posting freakish numbers on a regular basis with various quarterbacks. The problem with Gordon is, of course, being able to stay on the field and not let substance abuse get in the way.

Florio states in regards to Gordon's unlikely but potential return:

“Also, for every player who is indefinitely suspended, it’s hardly automatic that he’ll be back after only one year. The last time this happened to Gordon, he missed well over two years before he secured reinstatement. If Gordon, who turns 28 in April, misses another two years, he’ll be 30 when he’s back.”

Gordon coming back to play at age 30 would be a tough task to come back from as well as maintaining a lifestyle under the league's policies.
