The New England Patriots are in position to secure their usual top spot in the AFC East down the final stretch of the 2018 NFL season. Their success in the regular season leaves wide receiver Josh Gordon in unfamiliar territory.

Gordon has never had the chance to gear up for the playoffs. According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, he admits it is a new feeling:

“It’s different, that’s for sure,” Gordon said. “It’s exciting. It’s motivational for me, and for everybody. I’ve never really got the opportunity before, considering the circumstances. So it’s great to have the opportunity now.”

Gordon has certainly come a long way since his tumultuous tenure with the Cleveland Browns. Aside from his personal issues off the field, he was playing for one of the worst teams in the NFL. It is clear that this combination was a recipe for disaster for all parties involved. Fortunately, there were some substantial changes made in the 2018 campaign.

Gordon has ultimately found himself with a legitimate contender in New England. He has made himself at home with the Patriots as the most talented wideout on the roster. He got off to a slow start as he was getting acclimated to the playbook and earning the trust of quarterback Tom Brady. The veteran has now emerged as one of Brady's favorite weapons after hauling in 31 receptions for 547 yards and two touchdowns since his arrival.

Of course, Josh Gordon never had any doubt about his ability to perform in the regular season. He is now part of a group of new Patriots who will get to play in the postseason for the first time.
