On Sunday, New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon will be playing in his first meaningful NFL game since being suspended last December, and fellow wideout Julian Edelman is excited about his return:

“I think it means a lot,” Edelman said on The Greg Hill Show. “He’s a very talented player. He’s a great dude. He can bring the heat. This is a guy who is a stud. He’s doing well here right now, I feel. He’s working hard. He’s great in the locker room. He’s a good dude and we’re definitely excited to have him. I am excited to have him. He can help us, for sure.”

The Patriots originally acquired Gordon in a trade with the Cleveland Browns last September. In 11 games with New England, Gordon hauled in 40 receptions for 720 yards and three touchdowns.

However, he was then hit with an indefinite suspension in December for violating the league's drug policy. The NFL then proceeded to reinstate Gordon last month.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Baylor University, was originally selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft.

He played in all 16 games during his rookie campaign, catching 50 passes for 805 yards and five scores. He followed that up by snaring 87 balls for 1,646 yards while reaching the end zone nine times in a breakout 2013 season, making the Pro Bowl and earning First-Team All-Pro honors as a result.

But, since then, Gordon has appeared in just 22 contests due to drug-related bans.

The Pats will open up their season when they play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.
