The New England Patriots logged an upset win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, 23-17. Cam Newton had a good showing against the Ravens, as he led his squad to an important victory against the now-6-3 Ravens. After the W, Newton made sure to send a special shoutout to injured wide receiver Julian Edelman.

The Patriots came up with a trick play in the second quarter, with Jakobi Meyers taking a lateral pass from Newton. Meyers then threw an impressive TD pass to Red Burkhead in the end zone. Meyers, who himself used to be a quarterback, came up with a huge play for the Pats — something that got a nod of approval from Newton, and as it turns out, Edelman as well:

“Once a quarterback, always a quarterback,” Newton said of Meyers, via NESN's Zack Cox. “I'm sure Julian Edelman was somewhere smiling. But also nervous, if you know what I mean.”

Newton hit the nail on the head here, as Meyers did look like a top NFL quarterback for a moment there. The handsomely drawn up play resulted in a key TD for New England.

As Newton said above, Edelman was indeed tuned in to Sunday's night matchup, and the 34-year-old WR took to his Instagram Stories to celebrate the win:

Edelman clearly enjoyed the victory against the Ravens, and at this point, we're pretty sure he's itching to get back on the field. The former Kent State standout went down in late October with a knee injury, and subsequently had a procedure to repair the issue. He has since been on the shelf, and the Patriots have yet to provide a timetable on his return.
