The reigning Super Bowl champs have done it again by adding a supreme talent to their roster after the player had a fallout with his former team. Where have you heard this story before?
In 2007, the Patriots would trade a fourth-round pick in exchange for Randy Moss—from the Raiders. Similarly to the Brown ordeal, the Patriots became favorites to win it all. As a matter of fact, New England went on to go undefeated that season until they reached the Super Bowl.
The Patriots would fall to the New York Giants but that didn't take away the fact that Tom Brady had arguably his best season with 4,806 yards, 50 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. As for Moss, he broke the single-season record for receiving touchdowns with 23 that season.
Article Continues BelowFast forward to 12 years later and the Patriots are getting another All-Pro receiver for Brady to target. However, this time around, they didn't have to trade for the player.
As for Brown, he signed a one-year, $15 million deal to join the team that his original team could never takedown. It just so happens that the Patriots will kick off their season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week 1.
The Patriots will be unveiling their new Super Bowl banner while they begin another season as Super Bowl favorites. Brown won't be able to play in the game but it's hard to imagine that he doesn't make an appearance on the sideline.
Regardless of what happens Sunday night, it's tough to envision a team who can dethrone the Patriots this season. It seems as if the only thing between the Patriots and another Super Bowl is father time catching up to Brady.
