New England Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers had a very formidable season in 2021, leading the team in receiving and being an overall reliable option for rookie quarterback Mac Jones. The Patriots placed a second-round tender on the 25-year-old pass-catcher. On Monday, Meyers made his decision and put pen to paper.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Meyers signed his $4 million tender, securing his spot in New England for the 2022 season. He had until Wednesday to sign the tender. Had he signed elsewhere, the Patriots had the chance to match the contract or receive a second-round pick as compensation.
Meyers joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He came into his own during the 2020 season, hauling in 59 catches for 729 yards. However, it wasn't until this season that the 25-year-old caught his first career touchdown. This 2021 season, he set career highs in targets (126), receptions (83), and receiving yards (866).

However, a long-term deal is still a possibility for the 25-year-old North Carolina State product. Nelson Agholor's contract comes off the books following the 2023 season, meaning the Patriots will have the financial means to retain their leading receiver beyond next season.
Furthermore, N'Keal Harry has been subject to trade rumors following a disappointing tenure in New England. The Patriots have a lot of moving pieces at the receiver position, so it may be in their best interest to lock down Meyers now to avoid losing him in 2023.
