The New England Patriots plan to pick up Jason McCourty's contract option that will pay him nearly $4 million, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The #Patriots intend to pick up the contract option for veteran CB Jason McCourty, sources say. That would put him at nearly $4M for 2020. In February, @McCourtyTwins Jason version said on RapSheet + Friends, "I definitely plan on playing next year." https://t.co/0iWxG3RATf

This could be a move by the Patriots in hopes they can get Devin McCourty back for another season. Devin McCourty has said he will leave the Patriots for the right situation, but with his brother coming back for another year, that could be enough to get him to not consider anywhere else.
While Devin McCourty will have plenty of options and has told me he’s open to leaving for the right situation, picking up the option for his brother Jason should help the #Patriots chances. https://t.co/JDji9UBd1K

The Patriots signed Jason McCourty back in 2018, and he has been a key part of the defense, even if he isn't always talked about a lot. Back in January of 2019, Jason had said he might retire if the team was able to win the Super Bowl:
“I don’t know for sure, man. But I do look at it — if we can win this game, winning with my brother [Jason], I don’t know what else I could do that could top that,” McCourty said earlier in the week, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. “So I’m just trying to make sure I enjoy this season and enjoy these last couple days with these guys.”
The Patriots did end up winning that Super Bowl over the Los Angeles Rams, but he decided to come back. The Patriots need to make some improvements this offseason to the defense, but getting back both McCourty brothers would be a great start.
Bringing back Tom Brady would also be another important step in trying to get back to the Super Bowl.
