Gordon was acquired last season from the Cleveland Browns in an attempt to give Tom Brady one of the most lethal weapons he has had since Randy Moss. He showed flashes of being that kind of playmaker, but was unable to do so consistently. Now, he will hope to land with another team that can utilize him the way he wants to play.
Article Continues BelowIn the six games that he played with the Patriots this season, Gordon caught 20 passes for 287 yards and a touchdown. Obviously, those weren't the numbers that New England wanted to see from him.
Bill Belichick and company acquired Mohamed Sanu ahead of the NFL trade deadline. That move allowed them to move on from Gordon. Brady will now be utilizing Sanu and Julian Edelman as his top two targets, with Phillip Dorsett likely receiving a bigger role moving forward.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see where Gordon ends up. There is a good chance that a team will claim him on waivers, but if he does clear and is able to sign wherever he wants, there will be quite a few teams lining up with interest in him.
Expect to hear more news about Gordon in the near future.
