Regardless of the circumstances, matchups between the New England Patriots and New York Jets always seem to result in entertaining clashes. Monday evening's bout in East Rutherford was no different.
Both teams scored points on their respective opening possessions, with New England taking a 7-3 lead early in the first quarter.
Patriots quarterback Cam Newton led the way with both his arm and his legs, scoring a rushing touchdown that also ended a pretty significant drought for New England this 2020.
And there it is — the Patriots' first offensive points in the first quarter all just season. Not just their first touchdown — their first points.
Newton's 7th rushing TD of the year.

The Jets are simply not a good football team, while the Patriots are attempting to thrive during life after Tom Brady, which is obviously no easy task.
With Brady now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the job under center has been Newton's to lose. While things haven't exactly gone as planned for head coach Bill Belichick and company, the Patriots are still somewhat in the mix in the current AFC playoff picture.
Heading into Monday's showdown, the Patriots were at a surprising 2-5 on the year and clinging to life. Meanwhile, the Jets were presently a winless at 0-8.
