The New England Patriots will be looking to keep their undefeated start to the 2019 NFL season going on a short week versus the New York Giants. Unfortunately, it appears they will be without wide receiver Phillip Dorsett.

Dorsett was sidelined with a hamstring injury against the Washington Redskins in Week 5. He has now officially been ruled out for their game against the Giants, via Darin Gantt of ProFootballTalk.

Dorsett's status deals a crucial blow to the Patriots' receiving corps. This group has already struggled mightily with injuries throughout the 2019 NFL season. Losing another weapon in the passing game for quarterback Tom Brady is hardly an ideal way to get a win on a quick turnaround in Week 6.

Dorsett has registered 15 receptions for 197 yards and three touchdowns through the first five games of the year while working as the No. 3 option behind wide receivers Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman. Unfortunately, both Gordon and Edelman have also been hobbled by injuries going into their matchup with New York.

Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is likely slated to fill in for Dorsett this week. The undrafted rookie has just four receptions for 66 yards this season. Regardless, they are going to need him to take full advantage of his potential uptick in playing time if NEw England is to maintain its perfect start to the year.

Despite the relative lack of firepower on offense, the Patriots are still heavily favored as the home team with the best defense in the NFL up to this point.
