New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady signed an extension with the team but they could still cut him loose after this season is over.
That is actually a bit shocking to think that the team could move on to a new quarterback if they wanted to after this year, but it doesn't bother Brady that much.
Even though Brady is talked about differently, he doesn't see himself any different than other veterans who could be cut at any time to save the team money.

I’m ready to go this year, and that’s really what matters, and that’s where my focus is. It’s a unique situation I’m in. It’s my 20th year with the same team and I’m 42 years old,” Brady said via Pro Football Talk. “I’m really not worried about it. I’m secure for this year — I think, at least, I got some first-team reps out there.”
Even though Brady sees himself as no different than other veteran players, the truth is, he is a lot different. Even if the Patriots wanted to move on from Brady he has given so much to the team they aren't just going to cut him loose.
They are going to give him ample chances to lead this team and chances are he will decide to hang them up before the Patriots decide for him.
