I think it’s just hype, media, and everyone’s trying to make money and that’s what it’s about. I don’t get into it. I mean, honestly, my situation hasn’t changed. I’m just focused on what I’m always focused on, which is this week, trying to be a great quarterback for this team. As I said the other day, things happened at the right times, but this isn’t the right time.”
Though Brady doesn't want to talk about his contract, it is a hot topic of discussion, especially considering that he is indeed a free agent after the season after his extension signed in August. His most recent contract excludes the possibility of the Patriots franchise-tagging him. Barring a contract extension, he will be a free agent in March.
That doesn't mean Brady will be a free agent next year. It could mean that, as a 42-year-old man, he is thinking about retiring, or he wants to set himself or team up better financially. Nonetheless, he set up to be a free agent next March. Queue the bombardment of continues speculation, articles and talking heads yelling about the topic.
