The New England Patriots are off to a fantastic 2-0 start. They've been dominant so far, outscoring their opponents 76-3 in two games.
However, some bad news has hit the surface regarding the Patriots. They've released superstar wide receiver Antonio Brown after a slew of issues.
Of course, you could argue that while it's a big blow, it isn't detrimental to the team. The argument for that is pretty simple. New England didn't have him for their Week 1 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers; a game they won 33-3.
It also doesn't hurt that the Patriots have some stud wide receivers still on the roster. I'm talking about Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon.
However, it's Gordon that they need to get going.
After a strong Week 1 (three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown), Gordon hauled in just two catches for 15 yards in Week 2.
That, of course, was due to a diminishing role. With Brown on the field, Gordon suddenly wasn't the star attraction.
Now Brown is gone though, and Gordon should be right up there with Edelman as the two receivers that quarterback Tom Brady looks to the most.
Gordon's shown he has elite abilities when on the field. The question for the last few years has been more about if he'll be able to play (owing to the many suspensions).
Article Continues BelowHe's here for the moment though. He's here, and he's ready to get to work against the Jets.
That's exactly what the Patriots need, and they need to make sure it happens. It's pretty simple. The coaching staff needs to make sure to call a good amount of plays designed to get the ball to Gordon. Then Brady needs to throw him the ball.
That's it; those are the steps it takes to get this to happen.
He's a massive target with elite athleticism. Gordon will get open, and even when he doesn't, he always has a chance to make the catch.
It's also important to note that the Patriots are going up against the New York Jets. A team that's 0-2 and is being outscored 40-19 after two games.
While their defense is a lot better than their offense, there's a problem there. With the offense not being able to move the ball, the defense will be on the field a lot. That's something New England should pounce on. Gordon can take advantage of a tired defense with his bruising size.
If the Patriots can get him going, this game will be in the bag early. Perhaps more important though, it could get the offense rolling even more. With Gordon as a central cog, the sky's the limit (literally, the man can jump out of the building).
