Following months of waiting for the right landing spot to continue his NFL career, former Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant hs inked a deal for the rest of the season with the New Orleans Saints.
It is a move that has long been coming that Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett voiced his support for his former player finding his next stop in the league. (h/t Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com)
“Dez is a great player,” Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. “Really happy for him and that opportunity. I know he'll help their team.
“I love Dez. I wish nothing but the best for him. That's a great spot for him.”
Bryant had spent his first eight seasons with the franchise where he holds the franchise record for most receiving touchdowns (73), fifth in receiving yards (7,459), and third in receptions (531). He had been a primary piece to the puzzle offensively for the Cowboys throughout that span.
This is a fresh new start for Bryant to potentially latch onto the franchise beyond the 2018 season as this will allow him to demonstrate how much he has left in the tank at this point of his career. There have been plenty of detractors to voice that his best days are behind him after failing to produce at an elite level over the last three seasons falling short of 1,000 receiving yards. This is a chance for him to showcase that he can return to the player that was once widely regarded as being one of the best wide receivers in the league that had at least 88 catches, 1,200 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns from 2012 to 2014.
Ultimately, this is the situation that Bryant had been waiting to get to play for a potent Super Bowl contender while proving that he is still one of the best wide receivers in the game.
