New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara did not practice on Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Kamara is nursing knee and ankle injuries and was sidelined during the Saints' Week 7 win over the Chicago Bears this past Sunday. It marked just the second game he had missed thus far in his brief three-year NFL career.
On the season, Kamara has carried the ball 86 times for 373 yards and a touchdown while logging 33 catches for 276 yards and a score.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Tennessee, was originally selected by New Orleans in the third round (67th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed an outstanding rookie campaign, totaling 728 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging a hefty 6.1 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 81 receptions for 826 yards and five scores, earning a Pro Bowl appearance.
Kamara then followed that up with an equally impressive 2018 season, racking up 883 yards while reaching the end zone 14 times on the ground, registering 4.6 yards per attempt. He also caught 81 passes for 709 yards and four touchdowns, making another trip to the Pro Bowl.
The Saints have gotten very familiar with injuries to their top players this season, although they have not skipped a beat.
During New Orleans' Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Drew Brees suffered a thumb injury and has been out ever since. However, the Saints have gone 5-0 in Brees' absence, and they managed to score 36 points against a stingy Bears defense without both Brees and Kamara.
Brees could be back this weekend for New Orleans' matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, so even if Kamara is unable to go, the Saints may have their starting signal-caller back.
