According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the New Orleans Saints and superstar running back Alvin Kamara have begun new contract talks.

In the post, Fowler immediately gives the disclaimer that nothing is imminent. It is not like this deal is done already or anything, simply that “the Saints have gotten the ball rolling” on the situation.
Kamara had the worst statistical season of his career in 2019. Injuries played a part in that, as he played in 14 games – the lowest of his three seasons in the NFL.
The running back had 797 rushing yards (4.7 yards per carry) and five touchdowns on the ground. Meanwhile, he had 81 receptions for 533 yards and one touchdown in the air.
The rushing yards were the second lowest of his career (728 his rookie season). However, he had more touchdowns (8) and a much higher yards per carry (6.1) his rookie season.
At the same time, he's had exactly 81 receptions in all three of his NFL seasons so far. The 2019 season saw his lowest yards and touchdowns in that category though.
That being said, Kamara is still considered one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL. And with that in mind, the Saints are absolutely going to want to try and find a way to keep him in New Orleans for the foreseeable future.
At the same time though, Kamara likely knows that the shelf life of most running backs is not all that long. This is his best opportunity for a massive deal, and he is going to want to take it.
So the running back is going to be making sure he gets the best possible deal. Will the Saints be able to give that to him? Or will we be talking about a possible contract with the team for the next year, only to see Kamara hit free agency and be with a new team at this time next season?
