The resurgence of the New Orleans Saints' defense is one of the biggest surprises of the 2017 season. Leading the way for this formidable group is veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan.

Jordan has put together a monster year, stuffing the stat-sheet in a wide variety of categories. The former Cal Bear compared his dynamic stats to the pursuit of the NFL's version of the NBA triple-double, hoping to reach double-digit sacks, tackles for loss, and pass deflections, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett:

“I'm trying to get this triple-double,” Jordan said. “Before I start tooting my own horn – I'm not gonna do it – I don't know a defensive end who's doing what I'm doing.”

Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen dubbed Jordan as “the best all-around defensive end” early on this year. Needless to say, he's lived up to that praise so far, registering 10 sacks, six pass deflections, and 13 tackles for loss. The last player to meet the set criteria was Houston Texans superstar defensive end J.J. Watt during the 2014 NFL season.

More importantly, Jordan has helped lead a Saints group that is tied for seventh in the league in team sacks. New Orleans' ability to smother quarterbacks has been especially crucial as of late, with their top cornerbacks in Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley recovering from injuries. Meanwhile, Jordan is well on his way to meeting his version of a triple-double, although it still remains to be an unofficial NFL statistic.
