Alvin Kamara had a historic performance on Saturday for the New Orleans Saints, tying the single-game record of six rushing touchdowns. After witnessing Kamara's special outing, Drew Brees revealed the moments that led to Kamara's record-tying sixth touchdown.

“So they go down and score, we get the ball back. But at that point, it’s, hey get the first down and we’re on a knee,” Brees said, via Kevin Flaherty of 247 Sports . “Well, we had the opportunity we felt like, hey, let’s throw it before the two-minute warning. And we get the big play to (Adam) Trautman that gets us down in scoring range. So some things had to happen there in order to have the opportunity. But then at that point, it’s like man, we’re getting this record.”

In the fourth quarter, Kamara had a chance to get his sixth rushing touchdown if the Saints allowed him to run the ball inside the five-yard line. However, Sean Payton elected to insert Taysom Hill into the game to score a late-game touchdown.

But after Hill's touchdown, the Minnesota Vikings quickly drove down the field, giving New Orleans the ball back. Brees would then proceed to throw a pass that put the Saints in the red zone again, giving Kamara another chance to secure his sixth rushing score.

At the three-yard line with under two minutes remaining, Kamara would punch the ball into the end zone, tying him for the most rushing touchdowns in a single game in NFL history with Ernie Nevers, who earned the record in 1929.

There was a moment in the game where it looked as if the Saints botched Kamara's chances of getting six rushing touchdowns. On the contrary, New Orleans continued to look for scoring opportunities late in the game just so Kamara could make history.
