For years, the New Orleans Saints have been known for their pass-heavy approach on offense. However, that changed during the 2017 NFL season thanks to their dynamic backfield pairing of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara.
Fortunately, quarterback Drew Brees has no issue with the new balanced scheme. In fact, according to Herbie Teope of NFL.com, Brees is hoping to keep it that way going into the 2018 NFL season:
New Orleans boasted one of the most prolific run games in the league last year. However, things did not start off all peachy on the ground to begin the season. The Saints went into training camp with Ingram, Kamara, and Peterson in the mix. The performance on offense began to fluctuate before the Saints were able to refine their approach with the departure of Peterson. The remaining backfield helped the Saints finish with the fifth-best run game in the NFL.
Meanwhile, Brees still put up some major numbers after throwing for 4,334, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Although his production may have taken a dip in the new offense, he was still the most accurate quarterback in the league after completing 72 percent of his passes. That said, the Saints may have to revert to their old ways to start the season with Ingram suspended for the first four games of the year.
