The New Orleans Saints put forth their most disappointing performance of the season in their 26-9 loss to the lowly Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and they lost a key member of their defense in the process.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, cornerback Marshon Lattimore is week-to-week as a result of a hamstring strain he suffered during the defeat. Rapoport notes that Julio Jones punched in a 54-yard touchdown as soon as Lattimore exited the game.
If Lattimore is out for an extended period of time, it would be a huge loss for the Saints' defense.
On the season, Lattimore has logged 38 tackles, an interception and 10 passes defended.
The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by New Orleans with the 11th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He played in 13 games during his rookie campaign, registering 52 tackles, five picks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, 18 passes defended and a defensive touchdown en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
Article Continues BelowThen, last year, Lattimore appeared in all 16 contests, finishing with 59 tackles, a couple of interceptions, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 12 passes defended.
The Saints are not typically known for their defense, but this season, they have boasted one of the best defensive units in football, as they rank fifth in yards allowed and 11th in points allowed through Week 10.
Obviously, Lattimore is a big part of that.
New Orleans dropped to 7-2 on the year with the loss. It will head on the road to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday.
