The New Orleans Saints made a splash with the addition of former New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins. It appears they were not done adding talented pieces to their secondary.

According to Sean Fazender of FOX8, the Saints have now signed safety D.J. Swearinger while releasing safety TJ Green in a corresponding move:

New Orleans has clearly put an emphasis on shoring up their secondary ahead of the playoffs. What was once an area of weakness could very well now be one o their biggest strengths if they can get their additions up to speed before the real test starts.

Fortunately, Swearinger has become accustomed to filling in on short notice. The journeyman started the 2019 NFL season with the Arizona Cardinals before being released an joining the Oakland Raiders for a brief stint. Although his tenure with both teams did not last very long, he still managed to play an integral role for both defenses.

Despite Swearinger's recent struggles, he still brings a wealth of experience to the table. This is the same player that had been the leader in both interceptions (4) and passes defended (10) with the Wahington Redskins during the 2018 campaign prior to his release. If he can get back to playing like that, he should be able to provide the Saints with plenty of bang for their buck.

Swearinger will have two games to find his footing in the defense before the start of the playoffs.
