New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston understands how far his star has fallen. But he remains insistent on achieving greatness.

Winston addressed campers in Orlando, Florida regarding his own NFL journey. He acknowledged facing setbacks and becoming more of a punchline than lauded NFL quarterback.

However, the former Florida State star ensured the youngsters he remains committed to the grind and is ready to take the helm for the Saints:

“I went from being the No. 1 draft pick to everybody laughing at me,” Winston said, via NoleGameday on Instagram. “But guess what? I’m about that business. I’m out working everybody at my position.”

There was a certain intensity and seriousness to Winston's words, though he paused after saying he has been “outworking” everyone at his position with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott also in attendance. Prescott, of course, is coming back from a gruesome broken ankle suffered last October.

Regardless, there is at least some truth to Winston's words, even if the work ethic might have been somewhat lacking at the start of his career. He has every opportunity to be the Saints starter in 2021.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made Winston the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and went 9-7 in his second season. But Winston's Bucs tenure devolved into something more unsavory, capped off by a 30-interception season in 2019. He was released in the spring of 2020 and has made his way to the Saints.

But the 27-year-old has not given up in his search to get back under center. He spent a season as Drew Brees' backup in New Orleans. The Saints liked enough of what they saw in Winston to give him another contract this offseason, and he will now have the chance to win the starting job in camp.
