The uncertain future of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was one of the biggest topics going into the offseason. However, head coach Sean Payton has cleared up any speculation of Brees' potential departure.

The Saints are well-represented at the 2018 Pro Bowl Game in Orlando this year, with Payton and Brees serving as the two leaders on the NFC squad. According to NFL Network's Jane Slater, the head coach was adamant about his star quarterback returning to New Orleans next season:

Brees made it clear early prior to free agency that he wants to remain a Saint for as long as the team will have him. Payton is now reciprocating that love by assuring his franchise signal-caller will be taken care of until he officially decides to hang it up. That will be sooner rather than later, but that doesn't mean Brees doesn't have a few good years left.

Brees has maintained his status as one of the most accurate passers in the NFL. The 17-year veteran threw for 4,334 yards while completing a career-high 72 percent of his passes en route to his 11th Pro Bowl selection. He also added 23 touchdowns to just eight interceptions despite the run-heavy scheme the Saints displayed this year.

There was little doubt that Brees was going anywhere this offseason for the simple fact that they have yet to commit to a solid backup under their star veteran. Should New Orleans have let Brees walk, the only other quarterbacks on the roster would be Chase Daniel and Taysom Hill.
