Teddy Bridgewater may not be the real QB1 for the New Orleans Saints. However, they're winning their football games with him throwing from the pocket.
Bridgewater has been a fine replacement for Drew Brees as he's working to recover from his thumb injury. Fans have been shouting his name during their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he put on a solid Week 5 performance.
However, Bridgewater feels like he didn't do much in the four games he has played as Saints QB. According to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper, he feels like he's been doing an easy job in the pocket.
“I feel like I have the easy job,” Bridgewater said at his press conference. “All I have to do is throw the ball to Mike Thomas, Jared Cook, Ted Ginn, Austin Carr, Alvin Kamara, Josh Hill, and Taysom Hill. Finding ways to get guys involved and make plays for us. Today was a day when everything was clicking and we can come in this game finding opportunities to score points and get down in the red zone to do some good things.”
It's true that he has incredible targets to throw to. However, he wouldn't be able to convert those chances if he wasn't a solid quarterback himself.
He's thrown an impressive 314 passing yards for 314 yards and four touchdowns. He also finished with a 76.64% completion rate, the third straight game that he finished with a 70% passing accuracy.
The Saints have an interesting challenge ahead of them as they face Gardner Minshew and the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, fans are confident that they will win with Bridgewater holding the football in the pocket.
