New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is a free agent but it's probably going to take a ‘special situation' to get him to leave. According to Mike Triplett of ESPN, for Bridgewater to leave it's probably going to take a team that is already in a good position to win, and that isn't planning on drafting a quarterback high in the draft.
It will likely take a special situation to pry him away. That would mean a good team that isn’t poised to draft a quarterback (in other words, not the Cincinnati Bengals).
Bridgewater opened up a lot of eyes with his play while Drew Brees was out. He started five games throwing for 1,384 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. With his performance, he should be a sought after free agent, but the former Louisville Cardinals star has made it clear he loves being in New Orleans.
“Being back in the South, being in this culture and this city — a city that’s gone through a lot, and me as a person, I’ve gone through a lot as well — I feel like my personality, my foundation, it sits well with this city. I’ve been able to mesh well with this team, with this city,” Bridgewater said.
The Dolphins were the only other team to offer him a contract last offseason, and there is a chance they could be in play if they don't draft a quarterback. If Miami is interested, Bridgewater is probably going to need some guarantee he is the starting quarterback for the next few seasons before leaving the situation he has with the Saints.
If not, it would make a lot of sense for Teddy Bridgewater to stay with the Saints and hope he can take over for Drew Brees once he decides to hang up the cleats for good.
