The New York Jets decided to add depth to the ground attacks of their offensive rotation with the signing of New Jersey native Pete Guerriero. The rookie ball-carrier went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft but was still impressive enough to land an opportunity with an NFL team. He recently visited and worked out with the Jets earlier this month.
Unbeknownst to many, Guerriero was a collegiate star and led the NCAA football championship subdivision (FCS) with 1,995 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 298 carries this past season for Monmouth University. He finished fourth in school history with a career tally of 3,974 rushing yards. He returned kicks for the Hawks as well and posted norms of 29.9 yards per return along with a scored touchdown.
Guerriero was also a dual-sport athlete who ran track for Monmouth and won MAAC Outdoor Championship in the 100m and 200m events. He utilizes his speed well as he ran a quick 4.47 40-yard dash at his Pro Day in March.

He will look to make the most out of his hard-earned opportunity by etching his name onto the opening day roster.
Expected shoo-ins in the position include three-time Pro Bowl running back Le'Veon Bell, the immortal 16-year veteran Frank Gore, and fourth-round pick LaMical Perine. Guerreiro can still land a role in the Jets' special teams if he fails to be listed as a running back for the team.
The future of Pete Guerreiro with the Jets will be known by September 5 when teams should have already named their final 53-man roster for the upcoming season.
