For the second straight year, the New York Jets' top draft pick may end delaying reporting to training camp.
Last summer, quarterback Sam Darnold missed the first few practices but eventually reported, and everything was just fine. This time around, rookie defensive lineman Quinnen Williams may follow suit.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Williams, whom the Jets selected with the third overall pick in April, may not report to camp with the rest of New York's rookies.
The Jets expected Williams, who is still unsigned, to fly in with his fellow rookies on Thursday, but he was not on the flight.
It is not clear what is causing the holdup in contract negotiations between Williams and New York.
Williams played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama and is coming off of a sophomore campaign in which he registered 71 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

He arrived at Alabama in 2017 and had a relatively quiet freshman year, totaling 20 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and a couple of sacks.
The Jets have had a busy offseason, making several big free-agent signings such as Le'Veon Bell, C.J. Mosley and Jamison Crowder, which has led some to believe that New York could contend for a playoff spot in the deep AFC in 2019.
That would certainly be new territory for the Jets, as Gang Green has not made a postseason appearance since the 2010-11 campaign and has logged just one winning season over that span.
The Jets won just four games in 2018 and fired Todd Bowles after a four-year run as head coach. They replaced him with Adam Gase.
