New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to undergo a series of tests and checkups after taking a hard hit during Sunday's 35-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Darnold completed 18-of-30 passes for 133 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Jets' Week 8 loss to the Chiefs. He appeared to reaggravate his throwing shoulder injury on one of his last scrambling attempts, though. Notably, he stayed in the game.

The fact that Darnold continued to play is a bit alarming. He played through half a game with the injury in Week 4 before the Jets decided to hold him out for two weeks.

Jets head coach Adam Gase later noted that Darnold's injury was not serious, but the team is being cautious with their approach. Darnold is expected to undergo an MRI exam on his shoulder, and he will reportedly seek additional opinions. All things considered, the team seems to be optimistic:

“We want to make sure we’re not putting him in harms way where any further damage can be done,” Gase said of Darnold's injury, via Connor Hughes of The Athletic.

According to The Athletic, Darnold noted that he was “feeling sore” on Monday:

In his six outings this season, Darnold has thrown for 1,045 yards, recording three touchdowns, six interceptions and a 58.6 percent completion rate.

The Jets have struggled to find any sort of rhythm this season, as their 0-8 overall record can attest. Their next shot at claiming a victory comes on Nov. 9, when they'll serve as hosts to the New England Patriots for Monday Night Football. Kick-off is set for 8:15 p.m. ET, with ESPN having live broadcast coverage.

If Darnold can't go for the Jets against the Patriots, Joe Flacco would likely get the nod, just like he did earlier in the season when the starting quarterback went down.
