The New York Jets are coming off their second win of the season following a convincing blowout against the Denver Broncos that saw veteran running back Isaiah Crowell take center stage.
However, it appears that the Jets could be without Crowell as he has missed tow start practices this week, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
Article Continues BelowCrowell, who set a franchise record with 219 rushing yards, did not practice on Wednesday and was listed with an ankle injury. The thought that it might have just been a rest day after his busy Sunday is harder to buy now that he’s sitting out of Thursday’s practice as well.
Although this hasn't exactly ruled Isaiah Crowell out for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, it has put his status for the contest a bit in jeopardy. He still has Friday where he can prove that he is healthy enough to take the field with his participation in practice in some sort of capacity. The Jets have counted on him to provide stability in the backfield behind his big-play ability in the running game.
He has put that on display in various instances through the first five games of the season that saw it lead to a career-high and Jets franchise record of 219 rushing yards on 15 attempts in the 34-16 win over the Broncos last Sunday. This included breaking free for a 77-yard touchdown run, which marked the second 100 rushing yard performance of the season and third time scoring a touchdown.
If he's unable to give it a go, New York will likely turn to Bilal Powell to be the primary option out of the backfield while rookie Trenton Cannon could factor in the equation in some sort of capacity. Powell has recorded 264 rushing yards on 54 attempts along with 10 catches for 105 receiving yards and a touchdown.
