Antonio Brown is officially on the market, and one of the most talent-needy teams in football is expected to inquire with the Pittsburgh Steelers about a potential trade.

But are the New York Jets willing to pony up the dough it would take to acquire the six-time Pro Bowler if they are not one of his top choices?

Manish Mehta of the Daily News shed additional light on New York's approach to the Brown situation in a mailbag published on Wednesday:

There are more hoops to go through to land Brown (aka Mr. Big Chest). My understanding is that the Jets have not yet engaged in trade talks with the Steelers, but the smart money is that a conversation will take place in Indianapolis next week at the Scouting Combine.

There’s a feeling on One Jets Drive that Brown, who wants a re-worked contract with guaranteed money, will call the shots on his next destination…and that they’re not one of his top few preferred choices. But you never know until you ask, right? I sense that there’s a small chance that the Jets would be able to make this trade happen.

Brown requested a trade earlier this month following a 2018 season in which he routinely clashed with Steelers players and coaches, including superstar quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and longtime head coach Mike Tomlin.

He met with team owner Art Rooney II on Tuesday, saying afterward that both sides “agreed that it is time to move on.”

Brown had 104 catches for 1,297 yards and a league-leading 15 touchdowns last season.

New York, with rookie quarterback Sam Darnold under center, was led in all receiving categories by up-and-comer Robby Anderson, who had 50 catches for 752 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
