The Oakland Raiders opened the offseason by bringing back Jon Gruden out of retirement to be their head coach for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, Gruden was not away from the game of football by any means during his time off. When he wasn't providing color commentary on Monday Night Football, “Chucky” was running Gruden's QB Camp on ESPN.

Jon Gruden met with a slew of college quarterbacks over the years preparing to take that next step to the NFL. During an appearance on PFT Live, he admitted that former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was the biggest disappointment he had on the show:

“Man that’s a good question,” Gruden said. “Johnny Manziel was the most disappointing, just because the outcome of his career. I got criticized a lot for trying to pump him up during the draft. I really thought he has just an incredible playing style that would service him well. I was really shocked at his downfall and demise from football, but hopefully he can come back and play somewhere someday, because I sure enjoyed being around him and watching him.”

Many may remember that Johnny Manziel was one of the most polarizing players in college football at the time. His playing style and off-field persona created plenty of speculation as to whether or not he could excel at the next level. However, Gruden always spoke glowingly of Manziel leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft. His only concern for the young gunslinger back then was his durability.

Needless to say, the critics had been right as he ultimately wound up out of the league after two seasons with the Browns. The former Heisman Trophy winner is now working on his comeback to the NFL by potentially reaching a deal to play in the CFL.
