After turning down a multi-year offer from the Baltimore Ravens, veteran wide receiver Dez Bryant remains a free agent with no telling where he may land before the 2018 NFL season.
With Bryant still available and reportedly wanting a lucrative one-year deal to prove himself, it remains to be seen if a team is willing to take a chance on him. There's no doubting his talent as he can still be one of the better wideouts in this league, but he comes with some baggage that teams might not want to deal with.
However, former Dallas Cowboys teammate and current NFL analyst, Tony Romo, believes Bryant won't be a distraction for the team that signs him, via ESPN's Todd Archer.
“There's a ton of teams he could help,” Romo said after his U.S. Open qualifying round at Gleneagles Country Club. “One thing, I don't know how many teams will do their homework on it, but Dez is a good teammate and I think sometimes that might get lost in the way that the emotional aspect of things. If I was talking to any of the GMs or coaches, I would tell them he's not going to hurt the locker room in any possible way. He's going to come out and he'll be a great teammate when he gets there. I think he'll have a couple options here soon.”
Despite his outburst blasting the Cowboys coaching staff following his release, no one he's played with has had anything bad to say about the one-time All-Pro. Bryant can be the type of player that can raise a team's level of play with his leadership qualities and passion, but it can also go the other direction if he's not happy with his role or the number of balls that are being thrown his way.
It'll be interesting to see which team is willing to take the risk of signing Bryant for the 2018 campaign. No other team outside of the Ravens has publicly shown interest in the 29-year-old which is likely not a good sign for Bryant moving forward.
