The Green Bay Packers' hopes of returning to prominence and potentially a Super Bowl championship took a huge hit on Thursday as news broke of the Davante Adams trade. The Packers sent the All-Pro wide receiver to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first-round and a second-round draft pick. That leaves Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers without his most trusted weapon on offense. If Green Bay wants to return to the promise land, they need to keep Rodgers happy. Otherwise, he very easily could walk away, or more likely, just mail it in while cashing his $50 million checks the next few years.

After the trade, the Packers are left without a true top-tier wide receiver. There are only a handful of very good receivers left in free agency. One of them is former Pro Bowl wideout Jarvis Landry after he was released by the Cleveland Browns.
Here are the two reasons the Packers must sign Jarvis Landry in free agency.
2 Reasons Why Packers Must Sign Jarvis Landry After Davante Adams Trade
KEEP AARON RODGERS HAPPY
The Packers provided quarterback Aaron Rodgers with a three-year, $150 million contract earlier in the week. All of that money is guaranteed, so they might want to keep him happy. I'm sure he is not thrilled that he just lost arguably the best wide receiver in the world in Davante Adams. Reportedly, Rodgers was aware of the situation with Adams but thought he was still likely to return to the team.
If that is accurate, Rodgers is probably not in the best state of mind right now. He relied so heavily on Adams. Even with the season on the line, and other receivers running open everywhere, he still fired a deep ball into double coverage to Adams. Admittedly, that was an awful decision that showed how reliant he was one Adams.
Landry can at least fill that void somewhat. He is far better than his production in Cleveland showed. We all saw what happened to just about any skill position player that was not a running back with the Browns the last couple of years.
Odell Beckham Jr.'s stats fell off a cliff. Tight ends Austin Hooper and David Njoku are exceptionally skilled, and under-utilized. Hooper put up huge numbers in Atlanta before he went to Cleveland to join Baker Mayfield.
Of course, Landry was no exception. His numbers were also diminished with Mayfield as his quarterback. But believe me, he is a borderline elite receiver who is still only 29 years old.
ADD ELITE RECEIVER BACK ON THE ROSTER
Most people don't realize just how great Jarvis Landry was with the Miami Dolphins. After his second season in the NFL, he had 194 career catches. That was the most in NFL history for any receiver after two seasons. He then caught 94 more in his third season, bringing his total to 288. Once again, an NFL record. He followed that up with the best year of his career, when he pulled down 112 catches, leading the league. His 400 catches through his first four seasons, guess what, an NFL record.

Then he went to Cleveland. His numbers dropped considerably ever since.
Landry is a great route-runner who is exceptional at getting off the line of scrimmage. He might not have the breakaway speed or explosiveness of Davante Adams, but not many people do.
The Packers could not do much better at replacing Adams, but can definitely do worse.
