There was so much hype on the Los Angeles Lakers before the 2021-22 NBA season started after they added Russell Westbrook to the fold. That meant that the Lakers would be rolling with two former NBA MVPs in Westbrook and of course, LeBron James. But that doesn't seem to matter anymore these days, as losses continue to pile up in La La Land.

The Lakers took yet another punch to the gut Sunday night when they got embarrassed at home by the Zion Williamson-less New Orleans Pelicans in a soul-crushing 123-95 loss.  And according to Stats By STATS, the Lakers have now doubled down on an embarrassing blunder that has never been made by any other franchise in NBA history — not even once.

There have now been 2 instances in NBA history where a team with 2 former MVP winners in the lineup lost by 25+ points at home to a team with a losing record. Both of them were by the Lakers this season (December 23 vs. Spurs, tonight vs. Pelicans).

The bar just keeps on getting lower for the Lakers, who haven't quite gotten over the malaise that slowed the team down towards the All-Star break. They are now just 1-5 in their last six games, dating back to the first half of the season.

LeBron James and Russell Westbrook will have to lead the Lakers in a big turnaround before it gets too late. Missing the playoffs despite a loaded roster would be an incredible failure for the franchise,.
