Former major league pitcher Odalis Perez tragically passed away late Thursday at his home in the Dominican Republic. Perez reportedly fell off of a latter while alone at his home, according to ESPN. Around 7:00pm ET, his brother, Christian Perez, arrived at his home and found him lying on the porch.

Perez began his major league career in 1998 with the Atlanta Braves. Shortly thereafter, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he spent the majority of his big league career. Perez also earned his only All-Star nod while with the Dodgers in 2002.

During that season, Perez started 33 games, finishing 15-10. He posted an earned run average of 3.00 and a WHIP of 0.99. He was also a work horse that year, firing 222.1 innings.

The Dodgers organization tweeted out their condolences to the Perez family. Perez also spent time with the Kansas City Royals and the Washington Nationals before retiring after the 2008 season.
