Former NFL quarterback Anthony Wright was shot multiple times Monday and is currently in the hospital recovering from emergency surgery.

According to the Concord Independent Tribune, the Concord police released a press release stating that Wright was found by officers after being shot multiple times. According to the Concord Police, Wright is currently recovering in stable condition.

After speaking with witness’s on the scene it was determined that Mr. Wright got into a verbal altercation with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, police said. This altercation began when the “Ex” showed up to drop off his daughter. An argument ensued and shots were fired.

Police have identified the suspect as William “Willie” Moses Hooker Jr. and have issued a warrant for his arrest. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. He is considered dangerous and should not be approached if found.

Wright was a standout with the South Carolina Gamecocks before transitioning to the NFL, playing eight seasons in the league with five different teams. He started 17 games total during his eight seasons and during his last season in the league, he won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants. He is best known for starting seven games each during the 2003 and 2005 seasons for the Baltimore Ravens.

This is a very scary situation for Wright and his family. Hopefully, he can make a full recovery soon and the suspect will be caught without him harming any police or other citizens.
