University of Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts has drawn some comparisons to Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson. Others feel he should move to wide receiver (sound familiar?).
This week, ESPN NFL insider Todd McShay spoke about Hurts on the First Draw Show podcast and said that he primarily sees Hurts as a backup on the NFL level:
“I think you’re looking at a backup quarterback in the league who potentially, maybe, possibly develops into a starter one day,” McShay said. “But I wouldn’t bank on it. In my opinion, I still think he’s a third or fourth-round range. We’re kidding ourselves if we think he’s likely to get out of the first three rounds.”
While there was some trepidation about Jackson a couple of years ago, most felt that he would either be go in the late first round or the second round. He ultimately ended up falling to the Ravens at No. 32.

Hurts doesn't seem to carry the same cachet, so we can't expect him to buck the expectations just because Jackson did.
Regardless, there is no denying that Hurts has talent, as he is coming off of a senior campaign in which he threw for 3,851 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions while also rushing for 1,298 yards and 20 scores.
Surely, someone will take a chance on him. It's just a matter of where in the draft Hurts goes.
